The basics

What is policy financing?

Clear answers to the questions agents and their clients ask most.

What is policy financing?

Policy financing, also called premium financing, is a short-term loan that pays an insurance premium. Instead of paying the full premium when the policy starts, the insured makes a down payment and repays the rest in installments.

How does it work?

The agent sends us the policy details. The insured signs a finance agreement and pays the down payment. Polfin pays the remaining premium to the insurance company, and the insured repays Polfin on a fixed schedule.

Who is it for?

Businesses and individuals who prefer to keep cash available instead of paying a large premium at once. It is most common for commercial policies such as general liability, commercial auto and commercial property.

What does it cost?

The insured pays a finance charge. The finance agreement shows it as a dollar amount and as an annual percentage rate before anything is signed. The cost depends on the premium, the term and the down payment.

What happens if a payment is missed?

The finance agreement explains each step. A missed payment can lead to a late charge and, if the account stays unpaid, a request to cancel the policy. Call us before the due date and we will work with you.

Is it the same as the insurance company's payment plan?

No. A payment plan is offered by the insurance company for its own policy. Policy financing is a separate agreement with a finance company, and it can be used for policies that require the premium to be paid in full.
